Third Biography Gathering – 19th to 22nd April
As the two previous Gatherings in 2014 and 2016, we decided to continue and extend the invitation not only across the Tasman to New Zealand, but also to Thailand and India.
We pondered on having the Gathering in different cities, but for organisational and travel reasons, considering those who might join us from overseas, decided to meet arain at Rudolf Steiner House in Sydney.
The venue is booked for –
Thu 19/04 to Sun 22/04/2018 (Start: Fri 6pm – End: Mon at 2pm)
As before, we scheduled the Gathering for the year between the big World Wide Biography Conferences and we aim to serve a different purpose.
If the World Wide Conferences are a networking activity, making the width of Biography Work visible, the Gathering aims for a deepening of the impulse.
As we are aiming for deeping and strengthening the Biography Impulse in Austral-Asia, we would liek to propose a Special Theme for this Gathering in addition to the established themes and activities from the two previous Gatherings –
“How can Biography Work be communicated, and how appropriate is the theory and methodology in different cultural settings?”
Our Biographical Theory originates from western philosophies, namely Anthroposophy and an esoteric interpretation of the Christ Impulse.
If people from different cultures attend, this could become an intercultural dialogue and exploration.
If not, we can still share our experiences about how we communicate within western secular and anti-creationist societies. Or simply: How much jargon do we use and what reactions do we meet?
Another form of dialogue could be the presentation of the biographical analysis of spiritual leaders, i.e. Buddha, Mohammed, Gandhi, Dag Hammarskjöld, … Please respond if you would like to take that on.
We also propose a theme related “Destiny Learning” groupwork process on the following phenomena: “When did I avoid to state my spiritual/individual perspective in a group discussion or sharing, or when did I not speak up for something a carry deep within me? A phenomena typical for the “Cultural Creatives. (This requires your pre-gathering preparation.)
We are keen to make as many applications of Biographical Methodology, Theory and Practice visible as possible.
In our understanding, there is not a specific or right way to do Life Story or Biography Work. There are as many ways as people and situations for bringing the work into being.
If you, for example, amalgamate biography work and counselling, art-therapy, curative-eurhythmy, organisation development, family constellation work, working with elderly people, nursing, palliative care, coaching …, or if you are exploring the life phase past 63, lunar nodes, relationships, single parenting …, please join us to share your results, the challenges you meet and your questions.
Our contributions will form the substance and itinerary of our Gathering, and we hope for a variety of contributions form a number of people becoming involved in co-creating the Gathering. There are a number of possibilities such as –
- Presentation of 30–50 min,
- Short Introductions of 10-20 min leading into a sharing in plenum,
- Non-verbal und artistic-creative processes (of ? min) followed by questions and reflections.
These are timeslots to present tools, good practices, verbal and non-verbal exercises, new ideas, special areas of work, biography work blended with other approaches and questions related to biographical theory and methodology.
Please use the relevant section of enrolment form to let us know about possible contributions with a brief description. If you have a paper, send it.
Please also add any ideas regarding our Gathering which might add to the context but has not been mentioned above.
Starting our Gathering with the usual “Echo from In-between” (2016 to 2018), each of us could also share how we found our current spiritual stream or streams. (Again this might require your pre-gathering preparation.)
On another day, we could continue by looking how world views interact or clash in modern social settings (‘i.e. alternative facts’ or the amount of conflict in Steiner Schools).
And at the end, we could enter into a vision building process on “How the world will have changed when we meet again in 2020” and what our desired change would look like.
Other Elements or Themes
Beside the diversity of applied Biography Work in vocation and life, there is also time to share professional, contemporary and content related questions which might be connected to the following themes –
- What is the world telling us? How can we answer?
How are changes in the world impacting on us and our work?
- New ways, or my way of implementing biographical theory and methodology.
- Intervision and Supervision. Reflecting on the Harmony Meetings.
- And whatever you wish to ask, propose or contribute.
You could prepare some notes in response to the above. Some of the questions could be the springboard for starting the conference on Thursday evening.
Simple food, snacks and drinks will be provided for most breaks. We see the mealtimes also as a space catch up with old acquaintances or getting to know new people. You can bring your own food or gravitate to one of the many places selling food in the surroundings. For further information, please check our website.
